Obituary

Cynthia Tony Hernandez (James), affectionately known as "Granny", passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on January 3, 2019. She was 66 years old. Cynthia was born on November 11, 1952 in Toledo, OH to Manuel Hernandez and Eleanor Vasquez.

Cynthia graduated from Waite High School in 1970, then spent a short time in Job Corp. She worked as a bartender at several Toledo establishments and eventually went on to complete Culinary Arts School to pursue her passion of cooking. Cynthia loved to bake! After graduating she started an at home catering business "Cyn-fully Delicious" creating wedding and special occasion cakes. She also made cookies, pies, cheesecakes, and pastry’s. During this time, she also became a minister and held a few ministry and service positions with Fresh Attitudes, Compass, Sparrows Nest, and Family House homeless shelter. She loved to uplift and help others when she could. She worked until she was physically unable to. Cynthia last worked at the University of Toledo Medical Center.

While she enjoyed cooking and gardening her true gift was relating to people from all walks of life. Her smile brightened any room and her charismatic, easygoing personality drew people in. Whether in the line at the grocery store or at her doctor’s office, she could strike up a conversation about anything with anyone. She loved to brag about her grandchildren or the latest crafts she was working on.

Cynthia was preceded in death by both parents, brother Richard Hernandez and grandson Keyon Hernandez.
Surviving relatives include stepmom Adelaida "Del" Hernandez, siblings Rebecca De La Cruz, Manuel Hernandez, Charles Hernandez, Lydia Young, David (Rosie) Hernandez, Richard Mann Jr., Barbara Winkler, Dawn Edlen, and Delores Salazar. Son’s Richard Hernandez, Terrence Cohen, daughters Toni (Robert) Woodley, Ebony Hernandez and Ivory Hernandez. Grandchildren Bradley Hendricks, Rashawn Hernandez, Gregory Strode, Aneyah Hernandez, Karma Hernandez, Antonio Hernandez, Rashad Woodley, Jaiden Woodley, Aniyah Woodley, Tazunique Hernandez, Dae’ Viahn Hernandez, Angelo Coffee, Mai Angel Coffee, Romelo Hernandez and Nahla Patterson. Great-grandchildren Riley Hernandez and Tyus Johnson. Special friend Antonio Watson, best friend Kathleen Gant, dear friends Mary Ellen Coleman and Denise Arnold and her beloved dog Marley.

Celebration of Life will be 5p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at Strawberry Acre Lodge 950 S. McCord Rd 43528. Reception immediately following. Donations in Cynthia's name can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
