Obituary

Obituary of Dawn Ostrand-Naujock

September 10th, 1942 - February 2nd, 2020

Dawn H. Ostrand-Naujock, 77, Toledo Ohio, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020.

Dawn was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, on September 10, 1942. The first of ten children born to Russell and Helen (Sawyer) Ostrand. She graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1960.

Dawn earned a Bachelor of Science in Studio Arts from the University of Toledo and Art Education/Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she studied drawing, printmaking, pottery, and metalsmithing. She also attended Penland School of Crafts, majoring in metals and jewelry. Dawn was very involved in art locally. She was a long-time member of art organizations, such as the Toledo Potter’s Guild and Toledo Area Artists. She was a past participant and judge of the Crosby Garden’s Art Festival. Dawn brought the world of art to youth and was fondly known as the “art lady” at Washington Local schools.

After raising her sons Eric and Mathew, Dawn was employed at Gilbert Mail Service for nearly 20 years as a graphic arts designer. She was a gifted knitter, and in her retirement, she spent many hours creating beautiful treasures for others. Dawn was a gardener and an animal lover, spending many hours tending to her flowers and beloved pets. She shared her love of these hobbies with her family, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Eric (Linda) and Mathew (Jennifer) along with four grandchildren who lit up her days, Savannah, Emma, Owen, and Grace; her siblings Chrystal Jeurink (Mark), Bonita Ostrand, Lynnette LeFevre, Leon (CJ), Dale (Virgean), and Kevin (Caryn); sisters-in-law Carol, Barbara, and Ann; and special cousin Diane Ostrand.

Dawn is preceded in death by her parents, brother Russell, two infant brothers, and special friend John Novesta.
